Stoney Road Press

Stoney Road Press have been collaborating with Ireland's leading artists for 20 years, since a conversation with founders James O'Nolan and David O'Donoghue led to the studio's foundation. What Stoney Road do best is enable artists who may not usually work in print to realise their vision, often with astonishing results. From Eilis O’Connell’s haunting studies of the circuits of the brain, to Donald Teskey’s beloved land and seascapes, the work shows what the medium can do. Artists remark on how inspiring the experience of working at Stoney Road is, to which O’Donoghue simply replies “it’s what we love to do.” Gemma Tipton, 2021.

Nominated Artists-

Leah Hewson

'Jazz is on my mind as I look at Hewson’s suite of most recent prints, made with Stoney Road Press: jazz, but also clouds and storms, sunbursts and lightning strikes – some of the things you may feel when you hear really good jazz. And then again these works conjure those sudden thoughts that streak into the mind, or maybe they represent the chance meetings we talked about at the beginning of this text. Fizzing off their backdrops, they definitely open new doors to the sudden gorgeous views, and the scintillating serendipities that lift life above the ordinary. They combine to make us realise again that all around us is the extraordinary, dancing to its own subconscious music, everyday'. Gemma Tipton, 2021. Each artwork is a mono-print, an edition 1/1.

Barbara Rae

Born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1943, Barbara Rae studied Fine Art at the Edinburgh College of Art. She has travelled extensively throughout her career, and this body of work dates from a number of expeditions to The Northwest Passage where she sketched glaciers and wildlife . She travelled in the footsteps of her namesake, the Orcadian explorer Dr. John Rae. The works reflect Rae's deep rooted fascination with the topography and history of place.
