Leinster Print
Making Studio

The Leinster Printmaking Studio is a studio for artist printmakers in the Leinster region, situated in Clane Co. Kildare. It is a little known treasure and has been in existence for 22 years. The Leinster Printmaking Studio (L.P.S.) provides a professional working environment and studio facilities to printmakers by promoting excellence in practice and skills development in conjunction with continuous learning programmes. This artist led studio was founded in 1998 and caters for anyone with an interest in printmaking, from the beginner to the professional artist. It offers facilities for producing prints by intaglio (etching and drypoint), aquatint, carborundum, screenprint, photo-etch and photolithography. The L.P.S. is a ‘safe’ or ‘green’ studio – which means that, whenever possible, members use safe and non-toxic materials. Studio members have exhibited all over the world, including at exhibitions in Orte in Italy (2019), at Encuentro-Impact 10, Santander (2018); at the Celtica Festival in Port Adelaide and at mini print exhibitions over the years in Cadaques, Catalunya, Santander, Cantabria, Bimpe, Canada, Manhattan Miniprint, New York, Lessedra and Kazanlak, Bulgaria. Pamela de Brí

Pamela is an inter-disciplinary award winning artist, currently working in printmaking, painting, video and audio, and a founder member of the Leinster Printmaking Studio and member of VAI.

"My art practice seeks to work both historically and dialectically. I am interested in Irish cultural and environmental landscape, and how objects and images from the past embody cultural memory and characterise the present. My work documents and reflects social and demographic changes in rural Ireland. It is project based: I focus on a particular aspect of society, research it, engage with relevant people and their stories, explore the location, to build up a body of documentation and information which inspires the resulting art work. Audio clips accompany much of my work, mainly comments and stories from people I meet during my research. These two printmaking works are from my current project which explores shifts and change in rural Ireland. It considers themes of place – land, home, location, context placing and replacing. Land uses change and evolve as society changes, evolves, develops. As man moves from manually working the land to mechanical and industrial purposing, layers of marks are left on the land, evidence of past societies, changing the natural and built environment and terrain. The structures and vernacular architecture of the landscape change, develops, evolve, are built, demolished, removed or repurposed. The very horizon line is adjusted, reset. What is no longer of use now lies abandoned."

Her work can be found in private and National collections/commissions (OPW, Co. Kildare Municipal Collection, Iarnrod Éireann, Dublin Bus) and in private and national collections in Spain, Portugal, Australia, Bermuda, France and UK.
